Asian Bush Mosquito

The Asian Bush mosquito (ochlerotatus japonicus) is being called the Super Mosquito. The mosquito is a know carrier of West Nile virus. Some scientists think West Nile was brought to the United States by the Asian Bush mosquito.

The Asian Bush Mosquito (ochlerotatus japonicus) AKA: Super Mosquito

This Super Mosquito is a new type of mosquito that's more likely to carry and transmit West Nile virus. The Asian bush mosquito has been found in traps in many states. The species first appeared in the northeastern United States in 1999, around the same time West Nile virus was found in this country. The Asian Bush mosquito is native to Asia and is common in Japan and Korea. The Asian bush mosquito is not as aggressive as some of the other types of mosquitos commonly found in the United States.
