Mosquito Traps

Scientific research over the past 50 years has shown that female mosquitoes find their prey using:

  • body heat
  • light
  • colour
  • skin emanations
  • carbon dioxide

and a number of other physical and environmental factors.

Mosquito traps exploit all of these cues into a device designed to attract, then either trap or kill, mosquitoes. Mosquito traps are powered by:

  • electricity
  • propane

All of these traps utilize some form of attractant that lures the female mosquitoes to a capture or killing device. The mosquitoes are:

  • captured by an impellor fan that draws them into a net
  • attracted to a sticky surface to which the mosquitoes adhere when they land
  • attracted to an electric grid and electrocuted

The mosquitoes are attractants to the mosquito trap by mimicking:

  • exhaled carbon-dioxide
  • human scents
  • body heat

to provide host cues to questing female mosquitoes. Mosquito traps are chemical free and a safe way method of mosquito control.
