With West Nile Virus cases on the rise mosquito safety has become an issue of concern. Increased use of pesticides and repellents brings many safety concerns.

During times of pesticide spraying your safety measures should include:

• limit outdoor activity after the pesticide application
• close all doors and windows for 2 to 3 hours after the spraying is complete
• turn window fans and air conditioners off
• remove equipment from outdoor area
• cover sandboxes
• wash toys and playground equipment left outside during the spraying

Insect Repellent safety measures should include:

• using repellents with no more than 30% deet for adults and 15% deet for children over 3 years old
• reading the label before using
• applying repellent sparingly to exposed skin or clothing- do not apply under clothing
• do not inhale the spray from repellents
• do not spray repellent on your face- spray on hands and then apply to face
• do not apply to children's hands
• when you go back inside- wash treated skin with soap and water.
  Wash treated clothing before you wear it again.
